The North Star is a story about finnish mentality and rhythm of life trying to adapt to the demands of the global world. Municipal manager Mr. Olavi Rintala fights globalisation with the help of sauna products. The hands of the Finnish government are tied by EU regulations. A delegation of the village departs to Helsinki in hope of being able to lobby the government – with no success. The documentary follows the village of Vuolijoki struggling for survival in the global competition. The village´s survival is dependent on one factory and its volume of orders.
