Kevin Brownlow  (grille programme)

Réalisateur anglais et historien du cinéma, Kevin Brownlow est aussi un grand restaurateur de films muets, notamment du Napoléon d'Abel Gance.

Il réalise pour la télévision une série sur l'histoire du cinéma et, plus particulièrement, sur les grands auteurs du muet (Gance, Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd).

À cette activité de réalisateur, s'ajoute son travail de monteur – par lequel il débute et qu'il poursuivra ensuite – et ses écrits d'historien du cinéma. Son goût pour l'histoire marque aussi ses deux longs métrages coréalisés avec Andrew Mollo : It happened here, projection d'une Angleterre envahie par les nazis au cours de la seconde guerre mondiale et Winstanley, l'histoire de la première communauté de socialistes utopistes "Diggers", au xviie siècle en Angleterre.

Kevin Brownlow is known not only as an English filmmaker and film historian but also as a great restorer of silent films, notably Abel Gance's Napoleon.

He directed a television series on the history of cinema and, especially, on the great silent filmmakers (Gance, Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd).

In addition to his activity as film director, he has worked as an editor –by which he began and later continued his career– and has written works on the history of film. A taste for history also marks the two feature films which he codirected with Andrew Mollo: It happened here is an imaginary projection of an England invaded by the Nazis during the Second World War, and Winstanley is the story of the first community of utopian socialists "Diggers", in 17th century England.
