Études de cas - L'Homme de Kennewick  (grille programme)

Cette étude de cas si particulière n'est pas une idée originale de l'équipe de Lussas, c'est au départ une idée reprise au World Congress of Science qui s'est déroulé en décembre dernier à Sydney.

Emmanuel Laurent avait proposé aux organisateurs du World Congress de comparer trois films documentaires scientifiques dont le sien, L'Homme de Kennewick, réalisés autour d'un même fait : la découverte du plus ancien humain sur le continent américain : l'homme de Kennewick.

À Sydney, seuls des extraits des trois films ont été montrés et la confrontation fut d'abord celle des responsables des télévisions – Channel 4 (Angleterre), La Cinquième (France) et WGBH Nova (USA) – au demeurant très fair-play.

Nous avons alors été convaincus de l'intérêt qu'il y avait à reprendre l'idée en la ramenant à la préoccupation de Lussas : confronter les œuvres pour mieux comprendre ce qu'elles sont avec quand même, pour cette fois, l'impression très nette d'assister à une confrontation édifiante qui nous documente autant sur l'état du monde audiovisuel que sur la question du rapport science spectacle.

 Case studies - The Man from Kennewick

This unusual case study is not an original idea put out by the people working at Lussas, in fact, it is a version of an idea that originated at the World Congress of Science held last December in Sydney.

Emmanuel Laurent suggested to the people organising the World Congress to compare three scientific documentaries – one of these films was his, L'Homme de Kennewick (The Man from Kennewick). All three films deal with one subject : the discovery of the oldest human remains ever found on the
American continent : the man from Kennewick.

In Sydney, they only projected excerpts of the three films, and the major confrontation took place among the heads of TV channels – Channel 4 (UK), La Cinquième (France) and WGBH Nova (USA) – all of whom remained very polite.

This convinced us of using a version of the idea adapted to the concerns of Lussas : comparing works in order to better under stand them. The only difference being that at Lussas, we want the comparison to be constructive, we want it to learn as much about the condition the world of television and film as we do about the issues linked to the relationship between science and entertainment.
